The latest superhero puts the Marvel in the MCU. Literally.
In the second trailer for Captain Marvel, more is teased about the newest addition to Hollywood’s biggest tentpole property, now going ten years strong. Starring Academy Award winner Brie Larson (Room) in the title role, Captain Marvel is the first female-led franchise in Marvel’s decade-old series.
Set way back in the 1990s, this will not be a traditional origin story. It will begin with Carol Danvers (Larson) – a.k.a. Captain Marvel – in complete control of her powers, although the story will weave in revealing flashbacks. In this new trailer, following a previous teaser, we get the full rundown of the premise for the story, Danvers character, her foes, and her powers – including a first look at the extent of them.
This will also include young versions of Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, played by Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg (respectively) by way of de-aging digital technology.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson) and co-starring Jude Law, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou Gemma Chan, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, and McKenna Grace, Captain Marvel opens next spring on March 8, 2019. And just two months after that, the sequel to last year’s Avengers: Infinity War will open. (Allegedly, we’ll see the first trailer for that film this Wednesday.)
