It’s back. The Terminator franchise, that is. And women are leading the way.
In this first look image for the still-untitled Terminator 6, Linda Hamilton returns as Sarah Connor. She’s joined by Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire) and Natalia Reyes (2091) who play two new characters.
Nothing is known about them, or the story (filming began in June), except for that fact that this sixth Terminator film will serve as a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day, completely ignoring every film and TV incarnation that has followed that 1991 sci-fi action landmark.
It’s directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool) and produced by James Cameron, who started the apocalyptic saga. Miller and Cameron came up with the story concept together with producer David Ellison.
Whether John Connor is involved also remains unknown.
What’s particularly intriguing about this first photo is Mackenzie Davis. Not only is she at the center of the picture rather than Sarah Connor but, more specifically, there are specific markings on her body. There’s clearly a design to them, as if she’s a person or machine that has been grafted together.
Whatever she is, the nature of Davis’s appearance would suggest that her character will expand the Terminator mythos, and possibly even take over for Sarah as the new lead fighter (wouldn’t be surprised if Connor finally dies in a true martyr’s sacrifice).
Terminator 6 is currently filming and will open next year on November 22, 2019.
