The WB knows how to do monster movies.
2014’s Godzilla was a well-metered character-driven setup to the studio’s new Monster-verse, with nostalgic 80s era filmmaking sensibilities. The first trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters leans in ever more to the Spielbergian sense of awe and wonder while also ramping up the spectacle.
It will continue the events of the 2014 film while also, from what I’ve read, connect to Warner Bros.’s 2017 entry Kong: Skull Island (a very entertaining ride in its own right).
Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, Ken Watanabe, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Bradley Whitford, and Sally Hawkins, Godzilla: King of the Monsters rampages next summer on May 31, 2019.
