When you officially bring Ron Howard into the Star Wars universe, this is the kind of inspired crossover you get.
Howard, the director of the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, is also the narrator of the long (if intermittently) running comedy series Arrested Development. It’s about a rich family of eccentrics with only one sane son (Jason Bateman) trying to keep them all from falling apart. You can see all 4 seasons on Netflix, including a new interconnected edit of Season 4 (the first produced by Netflix) that premieres today, May the 4th.
But here, in this officially produced bit of clever “May the Fourth” marketing, Howard narrates a condensed version of the original Star Wars: A New Hope, edited and produced in the style of an Arrested Development episode. Even if you’ve never seen that single-camera sitcom this is still very funny, but if you’re an AD fan it truly is a welcome gift.
Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on May 25, 2018, while the 5th season of Arrested Development will debut on Netflix very soon (date TBA).
