A lot of Force Awakens haters griped that J.J. Abrams cribbed too much from A New Hope‘s basic structure and archetypes.
Well, Episode VII can now hold Jurassic World 2‘s beer.
In many ways, the final trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom plays like a plot-beat retread of The Lost World: Jurassic Park, where Ian Malcolm went to an island of unleashed dinosaurs to rescue his girlfriend scientist Sarah.
Similar scenario here, except Chris Pratt‘s Owen Brady is headed back to rescue his beloved raptor Blue from an inevitable island apocalypse. Scenes of terror on the U.S. homeland also mirror the concept of The Lost World‘s final act.
Even so, in the hands of director J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls, The Impossible, The Orphanage), this looks to deliver the dino thrills perhaps even more effectively than Colin Trevorrow‘s original reboot.
Co-starring Bryce Dallas Howard, James Cromwell, Rafe Spall, Geraldine Chaplin, Toby Jones, BD Wong and a cameo scene with Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens this summer on June 22, 2018.
