Poppins popped into the Oscars last night.
Disney-owned ABC gave a tease for the upcoming musical sequel to the Academy Award winning classic from 1964, but not the full teaser trailer; that debuted online (and can be seen above).
Emily Blunt takes over for Julie Andrews as the magical nanny who revisits the now grown-up kids 25 years later and their families. There’s also a new chimney sweep (the apprentice of Dick Van Dyke‘s Bert) played by Hamilton Tony-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Other co-stars include Ben Whishsaw and Emily Mortimer as the adult Michael and Jane, plus (but not seen in the teaser) Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, Julie Walters, Dick Van Dyke, and Meryl Streep as Mary’s cousin Topsy. New songs are by the Tony-winning team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray).
Mary Poppins Returns opens this Christmas on December 25, 2018.
