Tom Hanks To Play Mr. Rogers In Biopic (NEWS)

Hanks Rogers

Talk about perfect casting.

Tom Hanks, the most beloved guy in Hollywood, has been tapped to play Mr. Rogers, the most beloved guy in pop culture. And after nearly twenty years of not being up for a Best Actor Oscar (his last nod was for 2000’s Cast Away), it’s as if Hanks is daring the Academy to not nominate him.

The film will be called You Are My Friend, and it’s based on the real-life relationship between Fred Rogers and Tom Junod, a cynical journalist who, while doing a profile piece on the genteel host, becomes transformed by the PBS icon’s perspective on life.

Marielle Heller (Diary of a Teenage Girl) is directing the TriStar Pictures production, from a script by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.

With no production schedule announced, a release date for when this biopic will make its way into our neighborhoods is still TBD.
