The OFCC joined other critics groups to lift Get Out from The Sunken Place.
Announcing its winners via a Twitter rollout, The Oklahoma Film Critics Circle (disclaimer: I’m a member) began 2018 by revealing its choices for the Best In Film for 2017. Along with a Top 10 List – which saw Get Out eek past The Shape of Water in a tie-breaking vote – the membership gave awards in Acting, Writing, and other creative categories.
Get Out dominated the OFCC’s 12th Annual presentation, winning 5 awards out of the 10 categories it was eligible for: Best Film, Best Director (Jordan Peele), Best Ensemble, Best Original Screenplay, and Best First Feature (Jordan Peele).
The OFCC’s most provocative choice was for the year’s Most Disappointing Film: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. A major Oscar contender this Awards season, Three Billboards has proven to be a critical lightening rod, garnering divisive love/hate reactions. A substantial number of the OFCC membership landed squarely in the “hate” camp.
Here’s the complete rundown, tweet by tweet. (OFCC Vice President Craig Sanger designed the Winner slates.)
