I’m ready for Ready Player One.

Hot off its debut at the film’s Comic-Con panel, the first trailer for Steven Spielberg‘s VR future saturated with 80s pop culture is as stunning as you’d hope.

An adaptation of the YA novel phenomenon by Ernest Cline, Spielberg unleashes a dystopian vision that looks and feels like an extension of what he first built in A.I.: Artificial Intelligence.

I could do without the over-explanatory Voice Over from the lead teen hero, but it’s integral to the source material so I’ll accept that as a necessary compromise.

Starring Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Mark Rylance, Ben Mendelsohn, Simon Pegg, and T.J. Miller – with an original score by Back to the Future composer Alan Silvestri – Ready Player One opens next spring on March 30, 2018.
