A lot of Marvel fans will watch this, mouth agape, thinking, “Oh man, I couldn’t be more geeked to see this! I want November to be now.” Then there’ll be others, like myself, who will continue to wonder why such cheesy B-movie spectacles churned out by the Marvel brand still garner nearly as much excitement and praise from critics as they do fans. Look, I’m all onboard for seeing Cate Blanchett and Jeff Goldblum enter the MCU, but this looks as silly as the synopsis sounds: “Asgard is threatened but Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his hammer. To escape and save his home world he must fight his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!” Oooooookay. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins, Thor: Rangarok opens on November 3, 2017.
