The genre director of The Dark Knight and Inception storms the beaches of World War II.
The Battle of Dunkirk, which took place on French soil, was a week-long fight in late May of 1940, four years before the United States’ D-Day at Normandy. This one involved primarily British forces, along with other Allies, against the advancing Nazis.
Director Christopher Nolan brings in a few vets of his films, including Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy, along with Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, and the film acting debut of One Direction’s Harry Styles.
With battle sequences filmed on IMAX cameras, Dunkirk lands in theaters next summer on July 21, 2017.
