Original Musical LA LA LAND Trailer Debuts (VIDEO)

If I could choose to see one movie right now from all those set to be released for the rest of this year, it’d probably be this one.

With the Star Wars fix appeased by last December’s The Force Awakens – and therefore Rogue One can (and should) wait – the original musical La La Land instantly rockets to the top of my “Most Stoked To See” list of 2016.

This beautiful, colorful, romantic, melancholic trailer only helps. (To see the 2nd trailer, click here.)

Starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, La La Land is the ambitious follow-up to the Oscar-winning Whiplash from director Damien Chazelle. Critics and early audiences will first lay eyes on this modernized Astaire/Rogers pairing August 31st at the Venice Film Festival, but it won’t hit theaters until the holidays on December 2, 2016.

The song “City of Stars”, sung by Gosling as it underscores the trailer, can be downloaded at iTunes and heard on Spotify.

Here’s the official synopsis for La La Land:

  • Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.
