Well this will rip the heart out of mothers everywhere.
Based on the novel by M. L. Stedman, The Light Between Oceans is an early 20th Century period piece about a barren couple that raises a stranded baby, only to discover a few years later that it may be the daughter of a woman who thought her child had died in a horrible accident. (See trailer below.)
The film stars Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), fresh off her Academy Award win. Fellow Supporting Actress winner Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener) and Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) co-star. It’s directed by Derek Cianofrance, the acclaimed indie director of naturalistic melodramas like Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond The Pines.
The Light Between Oceans opens on September 2, 2016.
