Boldly brandishing one of those titles that’s just ripe for critical digs if the movie isn’t any good, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back released its first trailer (below) this week.
Never Go Back is the follow-up to the first Jack Reacher action mystery starring Tom Cruise, about a renegade ex-Army investigator turned drifter who gets pulled back into a lethal case. Sort of an old school action throwback – complete with a muscle car – the film did decent enough but not spectacular (or sequel worthy) business. It was on the tail end of Cruise’s recent low point with the public, following some bizarre behavior and comments related to his Scientology beliefs.
But a couple of thrilling Mission: Impossible entries later, all’s forgotten as Cruise is laser-focused once again on his career (and keeping his opinions to himself). With a seemingly revived (and insatiable) appetite for Cruise funneling his crazy into his stunt work, the ageless action star has revived his dormant Jack Reacher franchise along with his box office – this time reteaming with director Edward Zwick. They previously collaborated on The Last Samurai.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back hits theaters this fall, October 21, 2016.
