Enough with the glib media coverage. I couldn’t care less what J.J. Abrams‘ Jedi name is or what his lightsaber color would be. Let the filmmaker talk about how and why he made his film the way he did. Cue the DGA Q&A.
After a Director’s Guild screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the DGA invited TFA co-screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan to lead a discussion with co-writer and director Abrams about the making of the latest Star Wars blockbuster. Their 30-minute conversation covers the craft and the process, the importance of balancing detailed planning with fresh spontaneity, and other aspects of creative inspiration and implementation behind the making of Episode VII.
WARNING: as a heads-up, Abrams does casually use strong language on occasion. But he also does a killer Kasdan impersonation, so there’s that.
