With little fanfare, controversial filmmaker (and largely reviled public figure) Mel Gibson has returned behind the camera to direct his first film in 10 years. Titled Hacksaw Ridge, it’s been filming since the middle of September. That it’s a war movie – set in WWII, specifically – should come as no surprise; that the hero’s a conscientious objector should.
Based on a true story, it stars Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington, and Rachel Griffiths, and has recently added Hugo Weaving to the cast. It’s co-written by Braveheart scribe Randall Wallace.
Hacksaw Ridge is scheduled to open sometime in 2016.
