Those accents. That makeup. The 1980s and 90s haute couture. It’s Oscar bait of the highest camp. Lavish extravagance is on full display in the first trailer for House of Gucci, the lurid true story murder that took down the family behind the Gucci fashion dynasty. It stars Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani and Adam Driver as her husband Maurizio Gucci, both who are at the heart of the scandal. (Driver’s accent certainly leave something to be desired, yet he still strikes a compelling presence as always.) The all-star cast also includes Academy Award-winning actors Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, and an entirely unrecognizable Jared Leto who’s hidden under flabby old age latex makeup (and it’s pretty convincing, I have to confess). Salma Hayek rounds out the A-list ensemble. And in the FWIW department, it was actually nice to hear an original classic pop song used in the trailer (here, it’s Blondie’s “Heart of Glass”) rather than some somber minor key modern cover of one, which is the cliché norm for trailers. Along with the debut trailer, MGM also released a lineup of character posters, which can be seen in one of the two photo galleries below. This will also mark the second Oscar hopeful from director Ridley Scott this fall. His first — the Matt Damon / Adam Driver / Ben Affleck medieval epic The Last Duel — will come in October. House of Gucci will hit theaters this Thanksgiving on November 24, 2021.
